6 Months old & MRKH Day!

Bram is 6 months old! Time is seriously flying by! I've been back at work since late December and while it hasn't gotten any easier being away from him, I think I am able to handle it a little better. The past month he has really become such a little personality! He can sit up on his own, he constantly laughs. Loves being tickled and scared. And is starting his journey into real food! Lee is loving making foods for him and watching his expression the first time he tries something new. Seeing Lee make the airplane noises and feeding Bram with a spoon makes me emotional and so much more in love with him each time.

We recently had professional photos taken in DC at the Cherry Blossoms. About 20 women came to take a group breastfeeding photo. It was very beautiful and empowering seeing all of these women feeding their children unabashedly. Tourists smiled, motorists honked in support, and bicyclists game thumbs up. I am very proud to have met my main nursing goal of 6 months. I still supplement about 8oz of donor milk every day. And I pump 3 times a day at work. But the bonding time with him while I'm home is worth it all. I really don't see us stopping anytime soon.

In late April we drove up to Ann Arbor, Michigan for "MRKH Day" weekend. Its an 8 hour drive, and Bram did awesome! We stopped 3 times adding only an hour onto our trip and he was really pleasant most of it. My online BFF Allison lives in central Michigan and came down for the weekend as well so we got to officially met for the first time! I "met" her just days after her transfer 2 years ago and shortly before I created the Mothers with MRKH FB group. We've literally talked/chatted/texted EVERY DAY since then so it was awesome to finally officially meet her.
I was her rock during her surrogacy and breastfeeding journey. And she in turn was mine. While we both have amazing and supportive husbands, its been life changing getting to know her, a fellow MRKH Warrior, and has made us both stronger and better Mothers.

On Saturday we joined over 50 other MRKH Warriors and their families at the UM campus to hear presentations and participate in support groups. I had the honor of telling my surrogacy story at the end of the day. It was a very positive and uplifting way to end the emotional day. Many of the girls/women came up to me afterwards with questions, thanking me and wanting to talk more about it. We spent the whole evening getting to know each other and our families. It was such a life changing experience, I hope to make it an annual trip!
